Their presence taught me so much, the year they were in my studio. A challenge to keep their emotion, always as if they thought they were done before I did. So, I put lots of clay back on, something I never do.
Six months later as the clouds turned pink, the air soft orange in my studio, I found myself pulling it all off to expose them again. And there I was right back where I had started before. Those faces still gazing out at me saying, “See, trust yourself, your eye is still good.” I made them after I lost someone dear to me - my mom. They helped me rediscover myself as an artist. I look to them now and see so much growth and strength in my style.
God, I’m lucky to be able to do something that is so much a part of me. They, in their own confidence, in their love and beauty gave this back to me.
